11. Contrasting Elements

Contrast not only deals with graphic elements such as color and scale, but also substrate, ambient light, backlighting, reflection, texture, angle, translucency, movement, time, and interaction—just to name a few. So, if someone says, “Make the logo bigger,” your solution could be to make it red, or make everything else gray, or put a tint behind everything else. Making a logo bigger is certainly one way to heighten the contrast between it and its surroundings, but it’s only one of many ways to do so.
